How to Make Garlic Naan Bread Without Yeast

It is absolutely possible to make a delicious, soft naan without yeast. In this recipe, what makes the naan rise is the air created by a chemical reaction between the baking powder and acidic Greek yogurt.

The Greek yogurt is the main source of moisture, it helps the dough rise in combination with the baking powder, and it also keeps the naan soft when cooked.

What is This Garlic Naan Bread Made With Then

For the dough you’ll need:

  • All Purpose Flour
  • Baking Powder
  • Kosher Salt
  • Greek Yogurt
  • Garlic Powder

For the topping you’ll need:

  • Salted Butter, melted
  • Olive Oil
  • Garlic, minced
  • Parsley, minced

How Do You Make Garlic Naan Bread From Scratch?

In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.

With a spatula, mix in greek yogurt and stir until a rough dough forms.

Knead with your hands for 3-5 minutes until everything comes together in a somewhat smooth ball. Allow the dough to rest for 5-10 minutes. This will allow the dough to relax and make it easier to handle in the next steps.

Divide the dough into 8 balls and roll them out into a disc about 1/8-1/4 inch thick.

Heat up a skillet to medium-high heat and place the rolled out dough onto the dry pan. Cook for 1-2 minutes until brown spots form, flip, and heat for another 1-2 minutes until brown spots form.

In a small saucepan, or microwave, heat butter, olive oil, and minced garlic. I like to simmer the garlic until lightly browned for an extra crunch on my Naan bread. Brush the mixture onto warm naan, sprinkle with minced parsley or cilantro, and serve.

What to Eat With Naan Bread?

You will be tempted to eat all the bread. By. It’s. Self. While incredibly delicious, and definitely something I did during the photoshoot, I recommend these recipes to have with garlic naan. Mediterranean Hummus Garlic Naan Bread Pizza. This is my all time favorite recipe to make and it’s so easy to modify and experiment with. The base is our delicious garlic naan bread. You put it in the oven topped with Hummus, Mozzarella cheese, and your choice of toppings. I recommend topping like:

  • Tomatoes
  • Red Onions
  • Feta Cheese
  • Spring Mix seasoned with olive oil and salt
  • Chili Flakes
  • Shredded Chicken
  • Bell peppers

Tzatziki Sauce.

Another great option is to enjoy it as a snack. Make a small platter with veggies like bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots, and celery. Along with fresh, warm garlic naan and a heaping of tzatziki sauce. Mmm! 😋 You’ve got yourself a delicious afternoon snack.
